Golden Retriever Training- Tips for Effective Training
Golden Retrievers are the cutest dogs you could ever own. They are the ultimate family pets because of their friendly and easygoing attitude. For a Golden Retriever, obedience training is VERY important because Goldens tend to get excited easily.
Golden Retrievers respond well to obedience training and it helps develop a Golden Retriever’s mental abilities as well as make him (or her) a joy to be around. It is an absolute must if you want your Golden Retriever to become a member of the family. However, if untrained, Golden Retrievers will find ways to entertain themselves, like barking, chewing, pulling, and digging- leaving you with one question in mind:
How do I train my Golden Retriever?
First thing to have in mind when it comes to training your Golden Retriever is that no matter how you look at it, dog training is time consuming. But you can be absolutely certain that training your Golden Retriever is the best thing you can do for the relationship between you and your dog. A well behaved Golden Retriever is a joy to be around. They spread so much love and joy, and let’s face it- it’s nice to focus on those things that a good training can provide. There are many was to approach the task of training your Golden Retriever. I wrote a complete guide about dog training that you can check out here. In this post I’ll elaborate on some key aspects of the training itself.
Relationship is the key to Golden Retriever training
The relationship between you and your dog needs to be based on trust and love. The first and most important step in that direction is being in control of what your dog wants and using this to train him or her. When you learn to be a dog owner, you know how to behave correctly with your dog and reinforce good behavior, while avoiding accidently reinforcing bad behavior. Doing this consistently will, in time, build the foundations of trust, and will create a great connection between you and your dog. Most dog trainers think that aggression is not effective in the long haul for dog training, and there really is no need for it. Furthermore, a dog scared of his owner, may not obey at all. You need to create a solid foundation of trust with your dog, and that’s the reason I always recommend you invest in some obedience training. Owners that go through obedience training with their dog get more pleasure and have a better connection with their pet. You can train your dog in a lot of ways. My recommended online resource is this. Keep in mind that the time spent training your dog is well worth it in the end. You get to rip the fruits of a great relationship with your dog.
Training as Play
Golden Retrievers need at least 40-60 minutes of exercise per day. They are easy to train, and therefore provide excellent therapy and assistance dogs. One thing is for sure- you do not want a bored Golden Retriever puppy. Golden retrievers have a lot of energy, and get overly excited easily, so use training as an engaging experience. Incorporate long walks, chewing toys (Golden Retriever puppies are aggressive chewers), and cool toys if possible.
Training Golden Retrievers NOT to pull and be aggressive
Golden Retrievers are generally friendly and have an easygoing attitude. That’s why they are the third most popular dog breed in the US. This easygoing attitude means that Golden Retrievers are not an aggressive dog breed. On the contrary, an aggressive Golden Retriever is very rare. In order to encourage your Golden Retriever’s positive natural tendencies, make sure you never yell or get angry with your puppy. Instead, learn to control the way you reward his good behavior and avoid rewarding bad ones. I can’t stress this enough. Being the “pack leader” is very important when it comes to training your dog, but note that this does not mean being an aggressive jerk, but rather firm and smart in the way you praise and reward.
Furthermore, if possible make sure you get your dog socialized correctly from the moment he or she is a puppy. It’s important for your puppy to interact with other dogs so he can learn to be calm.
Doing this steps will make it easier for you to teach your dog general good behavior, like not to pull on the leash.
Step by Step Obedience Training
Start learning how to train your Golden Retriever puppy even before you bring your puppy home for the first time. My recommended dog training program has step by step guides teaching you how to train your puppy from the first car ride home, from eight weeks of age until he is one year old. You get to see a professional dog trainer with his own puppy and you can just do the same with your puppy. If you have the budget, you can also sign up for a local obedience class. Learn how to do that in this guide.

Most popular dog breeds – List with pictures!
Hi. Last time I wrote about a detailed guide about the best dog food by dog types. This week, I’ll talk about the top 10 most popular dog breeds.
Every year the American Kennel Club (AKC) announces their list of most popular dog breeds. This year the AKC announced that for the 24th consecutive year the Labrador retriever is the most popular dog breed. According to the AKC Vice President Gina DiNardo, “The Lab truly is America’s dog”. Here are the top 10 most popular dog breeds:
1. Labrador Retriever
Labs, as they are commonly called, have a reputation of being extremely sweet. Labs are outgoing, friendly, and eager to please. They are very intelligent and are seen as easy to train. However, if Labs do not have 30 to 60 minutes of exercise a day they can become hyperactive to the point where they may become destructive.
One of Labrador retriever’s favorite past times is to eat, so they can become overweight easily. This dog breed can be 55 to 80 pounds and live for 10 to 12 years.
2. German Shepherd
German Shepherds are seen as one of the greatest working breeds for dogs. They are considered extremely intelligent and prefer a specific purpose in their daily lives. German Shepherd Dogs are considered wonderful watchdogs; however they should not be chained or tied outside alone, as this could lead to aggression. This dog breed should be exposed to many different places, experiences, and people to become social and well behaved. They are typically 75 to 95 pounds and live anywhere between 10 to 14 years.
3. Golden Retrievers
This dog breed is consider one of the ultimate family pets because of their friendly and easygoing attitude. Golden Retrievers are excellent therapy and assistance dogs. They are in need of physical and mental exercise with the ideal time being 40 to 60 minutes of hard exercise or obedience training a day. Golden retrievers can be 55 to 75 pounds and have a long coat that sheds constantly, but becomes worst at the changing of the seasons. This dog breed is great with children, however can get overly excited and knock children over.
Beagles were bred for their ability to track scents, and specifically those of small game like rabbits and squirrels. They are fun loving and generally happy, but may be considered stubborn so patience and unique training activities are required. Beagles are intelligent and when they become bored they will find ways to entertain themselves such as digging or barking and howling. In fact, one of the main reasons why Beagles get turned in to animal shelters is that owners do not know how to handle all of the noise. This dog breed is 18 to 30 pounds and can live for 10 to 15 years.
Bulldogs are great companions that run on a slower speed. A dog breed that requires short walks with naps at the end means that this breed are definitely housedogs. They are sensitive to cold but cannot tolerate heat or humidity, so it is important for owners to keep an eye on their dog when taking a walk. This dog breed can be stubborn and have a big lazy style. Bulldogs are prone to respiratory problems because of their noses; they can have pinched nostrils that can require surgery as well as wheezing, snoring, and experience sleep apnea. Bulldogs can weigh 40 to 50 pounds.
6. Yorkshire Terrier
When looking for a dog breed that is suitable for apartment living then a Yorkshire Terrier will fit perfectly. Though Yorkie’s are small and loving they are also feisty. This dog breed can weigh from 4 to 6 pounds and are known to be difficult to house train.
Yorkshire terriers do not tend to shed but they may have problems with their teeth. This dog breed tends to keep their puppy teeth while the adult teeth grow in; owners need to pay special attention to the breed’s teeth throughout their lives.
This dog breed is in need of people around them. Boxers are rambunctious with high energy, and require a lot of exercise. If Boxers are left alone too long with too much energy stored up they tend to become ill tempered and extremely destructive. Fun training for this breed is essential because if they feel too pushed around they will not become receptive to the training. Boxers can be 60 to 70 pounds; they shed in the spring, and have a short nose that can lead to snoring or breathing difficulties especially during hot days.
Poodles are best known for being a companion dog breed, however they are tremendously intelligent and have a playful side. Good obedience training for poodles is essential for a well-rounded and a happy Poodle. This dog breed is 45 to 70 pounds with a coat that requires some high maintenance. Some owners take their poodles for professional grooming every three to six weeks. If you would like to have poodle as a show dog keep in mind that poodles have weepy eyes that can stain its fur, so they need to have their eyes wiped every day.
Rottweilers is another working dog breed. Throughout their history Rottweilers have been cowboys, military soldiers, and police dogs. In society Rottweilers have a poor reputation of being aggressive and dangerous. If a puppy is trained and subject to extensive socialization Rottweilers can be an excellent breed to have in your home. This breed can be 85 to 130 pounds; they shed year-round, and when training will test you to see if you are firm with them.
This breed is a scent hound made for hunting small game that dig tunnels such as rabbits, foxes, and badgers. Dachshunds are intelligent and have a mischievous attitude. Training Dachshunds may be difficult because they are typically stubborn. The dig instinct it is typical for this dog breed and also the prey instinct. Dachshunds will dig up flowerbeds or bed sheets and every toy that they receive may be effectively destroyed. By nature, this breed of dog can cling to one-person and be very suspicious of strangers; they can be 16 to 32 pounds and have a fragile spine.
Best Dog Food by Dog Types- Detailed Guide
Hi. Last time I wrote a complete guide describing How to train your dog. This week, I’ll deal with another topic- Best Dog Food by Dog Types.
Although there are a few kinds of dog foods that can be fed to all dog breeds, for healthy growth and development, most dog types have diets more suited for them. These specific dog foods are largely dependent on the characteristics of each dog type. In other words, you need to consider the natural behavioral and physiological features of your dog types if you want to get the most suitable dog food for them. Apart from their features, you also need to consider the purpose for which you want the dog. In this overview I touch on some recommended dog food according to specific dog types. Please note that most of the recommended products here are Wysong’s– that’s the brand that worked for me and the one I endorse, but we do provide other recommendations as well, so make your own judgment and adjustments as needed.
Please remember- always consult your vet what food and diet is appropriate for your dog.
You can easily scroll down the dog types for your specific dog breed in the links below. If your dog breed is not in this list, I provided some general recommendations in the end:
This dog type has a great water resistant coat and is also a great retriever. Labradors are relatively more intelligent than other breeds and they are known to obey instructions to the letter. This is why this is one of the dog types preferred by the police and the armed forces. Naturally, they enjoy regular long walks with the company of their owner. Labradors are relatively more active than most other dog types so they need more of energy from protein- lamb, chicken and fish. For your Labrador, my recommended dog foods are Wysong’s Archetype (Chicken Variant), Wysong’s Archetype Burgers and Wysong’s fundamentals.
Best Dog Food for Bulldogs
This dog type is usually muscular in nature. Bulldogs like being cuddled all the time and that is why they are referred to as lapdogs. You need to pay more attention to their food as they are very vulnerable to a few health issues. Bulldogs are known to have a very sensitive digestive system. Apart from that, they are also susceptible to allergies, hip dysplasia and flatulence. You need to take note of every food you give your bulldog so that if it develops any allergy, you will be able to easily pinpoint the particular food the dog is reacting to. You also need to take note of the quantities as he may be reacting to the quantity, not to the food itself. This dog type needs less protein because he is not as active as other dog types. Due to their sensitive digestive system, Wysong’s Anergen is recommended for them, but note that due to sensitivity of the digestive system, they should not be fed with ingredients like wheat, corn, soy, added colors, sweeteners and artificial flavors as they are known to trigger allergies. This is not to say that all these ingredients will give your bulldog problems. The point is you have to avoid all of them until you are able to discover all what triggers your dog’s allergies and what doesn’t.
Best Dog Food for Boxers
This dog type is known to be very athletic and active naturally. Boxers usually need at least 30 minutes of exercise a day. Due to its restless nature, this dog type requires a highly nutritious diet to maintain its level of energy. Boxers are known to be very friendly and very energetic. For this dog type, a daily exercise is a must to remain healthy. Boxers can be very restless and that makes them a little difficult to handle. Boxers need all the basic nutritional ingredients in their food to be able to maintain their high energy level. Apart from that, they also require diets with very high protein ingredients. You also have to ensure they get all the necessary vitamins and minerals needed for healthy and rapid growth. Of all the essential minerals, calcium seems to be the most important as it enhances strong bones and healthy joints. Due to their high energy level, this dog type also requires taurine and L-carnitine for a healthy heart.
Boxers are quite susceptible to allergies from protein. So be very careful with the kind of protein you give your boxer. Due to these allergies, it is advisable that whenever you are able to get the right dog food, just stick to it.
Best Dog Food for Pitbulls
This dog type is agile, muscular and very strong. The biggest problem with Pitbulls is their aggression. Pitbulls are generally aggressive in nature and that is why it is better to own this dog type from the time he is a puppy. When you buy an adult Pitbull it would take time and effort for the dog to see you as a friend. As strong as Pitbulls are, their digestive system is very sensitive so don’t just make them eat anything. Despite being prone to allergies, Pitbulls have a huge appetite so you will need to minimize how often your dog eats to avoid obesity and health problems as the dog gets older.
Despite being known for aggression, Pitbulls can be affectionate and very playful. Generally, most dog types are energetic except when they get old. Pitbulls are one of the most energetic dog type. So they are always ready for a long walk. An adult Pitbull requires about 1400 calories every single day and a lot of protein. Pitbull puppies require about 22 percent protein while an adult Pitbull needs about 18 percent protein. Since this dog type is an energetic one, it requires a lot of fat as a major source of energy so you need to consider dog food with a lot of protein and fat. Puppies require about 8 percent of fat while adult Pitbulls require about 5 percent in their diet.
This dog type is known for its quick and easy adaptability to different environment, and is also quite easy to train as he obeys instructions well. Rottweilers are generally friendly and they also need regular exercise like most other dog types. Rottweilers are generally fearless, they have natural instincts to protect their territory and they can be ferocious towards intruders. This is the major reason they are commonly used as guard dogs. For Rotties, there is a very thin line between being protective and being aggressive and this is why it is a must totrain your dog. It can be dangerous when your Rottweiler lacks control. Power without control is very dangerous, so any dog type with the kind of courage, strength and intelligence like Rottweilers without control portends great danger.
This dog type is known to be fiercely devoted to his owners. German shepherds have naturally muscular bodies that become prominent as they grow older. They need highly nutritional dog food in the right quantity to be able to maintain their muscular body and their health generally. On the average, German Shepherds weigh about 75 pounds and what contribute mostly to their general body weight are their bones and muscles. This dog type is strong, intelligent, athletic and overly active.
While a typical adult German shepherd requires an average of about 1900 daily calories, much older and less active ones require a little less. This statistics was given by the National Research Council of the National Academies of Sciences. You must ensure you give your German shepherd a daily long walk or other forms of rigorous exercise not only because he likes it, but also because it is necessary to maintain his health.
All athletic dog types require highly nutritional dog food at the right time and quantity. To maintain their energy, they need food with high fat content. And they also require a lot of protein for healthy growth and development of their muscle. According to Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO), a puppy German shepherd requires at least 22 percent of protein in his food for rapid and healthy growths, while the adult requires just 18 percent for general health maintenance. To maintain their relatively high energy level, puppies require 8 percent fat in their diet while adults need just 5 percent. Since German Shepherds are known for their rapid growth, it is advisable to switch from puppy diet to adult’s dog food after about 6 to 7 months. This is important as feeding an adult German shepherd with a puppy formula will make him prone to joint and bone issues.
The following dog foods are suitable for your German Shepherd: All variants of Wysong’s Epigen Canned Diets (Epigen Canned beef, Epigen Canned chicken, Epigen Canned duck, Epigen Canned rabbit, Epigen Canned salmon and Epigen Canned turkey), and some other ones like Wysong’s Growth, Wysong’s Fundamental, Wysong’s Synorgon, Wysong’s Archetype Burgers, Royal Canin Breed Specific and Nutro Natural Choice for large breed adult.
Best Dog Food for Large Breed Puppy
This general dog type requires dog food with meat based protein and fewer carbohydrates. They also need diets with low calcium. Furthermore, vitamins and minerals are highly essential for large breed puppies. Large Breeds are prone to health issues when they begin to grow old. They are prone to hip dysplasia, arthritis and even cancer. You can help them to prevent some of this health issues by putting them on a foundation of sound nutritional diet in their early days.
For the healthy growth consider the following dog foods from known brands: Orijen large breed puppy food and Blue Buffalo Wilderness puppy food.
Since older dogs are less active, less agile and less energetic, they do less exercise so they need fewer calories, fat and protein. On the other hand, they need a whole lot of vitamins and minerals as they are highly susceptible to a lot of health issues at this stage of their lives. Apart from that, old dogs have more allergies than young ones. These are the main issues you need to consider before you choose the right diet for an older dog. Wysong’s Synorgon will be just perfect for your old dog. Other suitable dog foods are Wysong’s Vegan, Wysong’s Nurture with Quail and last but not the least, Wysong’s Anergen to avoid allergies.
Best Dog Food For Skin Allergies- Hypoallergenic Dog Foods for dogs with allergies
There are two kinds of fibers in dog foods: soluble fiber and insoluble fiber. Whether soluble or insoluble, both kinds of fibers are highly important in a dog’s diet. According to the National Research Council of the National Academies of Sciences, the main benefits of fibers are:
• Fibers promote rapid and healthy weight loss in both dogs and humans.
• Fibers reduce the chances of the emergence of colon cancer in both dogs and humans.
As always I hope this was useful.

How to train your dog – The complete guide
Hi. Last time I wrote about aging in dogs. This week, I’ll deal with another topic- How to train your dog.
There are many dog training resources out there trying to provide information on exactly how to train your dog. Most people don’t know how to begin, and change their lifestyle to accommodate their dog’s behaviors. In this post I’ll try to do the impossible and give you a detailed outlook of all the best dog training methods out there.
Dogs have some deeply rooted, hardwired behaviors like jumping when they say hello, barking, chewing everything and digging. These behaviors can make it challenging to actually live with a dog. In order to enjoy life with your dog it’s highly recommended that you teach him (or her) skills that will allow you to live together in harmony.
how to train your dog
Learning how to train your dog will improve your life and your dog’s life, enhance the bond between you, and ensure his safety. It can also be a lot of fun.
Dogs are usually eager to learn, and the key to success is good communication. Your dog needs to understand how you want him to behave and why he should act in the way you want.
Dog obedience training is not something cruel- It’s an amazing opportunity to improve the connection between you and your dog so you can enjoy a far greater understanding throughout the years.
When it comes to dog obedience training, most of the dog training resources out there do not specify all the best dog training methods, and are mainly focused on one dog training resource. My hope is that by the end of this article you will know exactly how to train your dog in the way that best fits your personality and lifestyle.
You can quickly scroll down by clicking on the links above.
The benefits of Dog training
There are a lot of benefits for dog training. We listed some above, but the major ones are:
Puppy training classes give your dog the chance for a positive beginning in your house and family. It provides your puppy with the social skills he needs in new places.
When you know how to train your puppy with general puppy house training, you get the knowledge to deal with dog behavioral problems, like leash training, and aggressive dog chewing.
You get the good behavior-
When you know how to house train a puppy then all the good dog behavior you always wanted is possible; from welcoming people coming to your house, to peeing only when outside. All making your dog easier to handle. Dog obedience training creates all the simple behaviors; like politely greeting people and coming back when called, possible. So when you know how to train your puppy, your dog becomes a fun family member and can join all the family activities. You won’t need to put your dog in another room when you have visitors and can take your dog everywhere!
Prevents your dog from running away-
House training puppies is the best and top reason that a dog stays at home.
Training your puppy is known to create an unbelievable connection between you and your dog and makes your dog happier. You understand your dog far better, and research show that owners that went through obedience training with their dog get more pleasure and have a better connection with their pet, which is quite understandable- when your dog isn’t pulling on the leash and is potty trained, it’s easier for you as a dog owner.
It’s fun! –
Training your puppy is fun for you and the dog. It’s an uplifting and engaging experience for you both and can be quite an amusing experience as well.
This is one benefit of dog training which is obvious but people don’t think about so much. When you know how to train a dog you can limit safety risks for your dog. A dog that comes back when called is less likely to get hit by a car for example. Furthermore, if unfortunately you had no reason but to place your dog in a shelter, a trained dog is more likely to find a new home after obedience training than without obedience training.
Dog obedience classes can take up a lot of time, therefore it isn’t right for everyone, so I tried to provide all the best dog training methods that we know of in this article. By a disciplined training you can have a well behaving dog, which could save you from years of stress handling a misbehaving dog.
General dog training tips
Generally speaking, dogs learn through the immediate consequences of their behavior. If the consequences of their behavior are good, they will do them more. If not, they will probably stop. In other words, if a dog’s behavior results in something pleasant like food, or a petting, your dog will do that action more. On the contrary, if a behavior’s result is unpleasant, like being ignored, he will do that behavior less.
Taking this into consideration, here are a couple of general dog training tips:
Most dog behaviorists think that punishments are ineffective in the long run. Your dog just doesn’t understand the reason you are angry with him. Research shows that aversion training techniques provoke fearful or defensively aggressive behavior, while positive training makes your dog know you are happy with him and makes him behave well- You can read the full research here. Positive training can be dog toys, food or petting. The basic idea is to give your dog a positive reinforcement, a reward, every time he behaves “right” so he knows he is good.
A dog can learn everything at once. Take your time, be patient and enjoy the dog training process. Practice makes perfect so be disciplined.
Pick a time when you won’t get interrupted-
Turn off your phone and other distractions. You want to create a clear concise association between a behavior and reward. You want your dog to know he is getting rewarded for sitting when you say “sit” and not because your phone is ringing. Furthermore- this is dog fun time! Don’t waste it.
Use specific words, all the time-
Dogs don’t understand English; therefore only use concise, specific words like “sit”.
Reward immediately (!!)-
After your dog behaves correctly. You want to create an association between the good behavior and being rewarded. You can follow the reward with verbal reinforcements like “good dog!”
Only give the reward if your dog behaves in the proper way–
Remember, the number one rule for effective dog training is controlling the consequences of your dog’s behavior. Reward behaviors you like. Make sure behaviors you don’t like are not rewarded.
Don’t get angry with your dog-
Try some other time if your dog doesn’t get it.
Check your dog’s attitude-
Only train when your dog is up for it, for example: NOT when he is sleeping like an angel on his mat.
Be the pack leader-
This does not mean being a dominating jerk, but only being in control of what your dog want’s and using this to train him properly.
Dog training skills
Dogs are able to learn a huge amount of training skills and tricks. Each dog owner has a style of his own and different ideas about what he or she wants from a dog.
Polite dog skills-
Obviously, the first thing you should probably teach your dog is some polite dog behaviors. These polite dog behaviors vary from teaching your dog basic house training, dog crate training, potty training, teaching your dog how to sit, teach your dog how to stay, wait at doors, or come when called. If you’re planning to take your dog out on walks (and you should), start teaching your dog not to pull on the leash. If you have a large dog you should be teaching your dog not to jump on people as well.
There are some easy dog tricks that you can teach your dog and other cool dog tricks like “high five”, tug of war or rolling on a skateboard! There really are no limits to dog tricks. You can check specific dog skills and tricks for dogs online, but here is a free resource to give you an idea of what is possible and how to train your dog to do it: https://www.doggiebuddy.com/topics/Trainingtopics/traintopic3.html

When your dog gets older his normal functioning may deteriorate; memory, awareness eyesight and hearing are the main areas that suffer.
You might find that aging in dogs make him (or her) confused, and create troubles navigating- your dog can actually walk into thing.
Aging in dogs can either increase their activity level, or decrease it.
Dog aging can make your dog forget habits like house training and bladder control, or other previously common habits. Your dog might bark more, walk around aimlessly or generally be weird. Apathetic Responses to things or lack of excitement are not uncommon as well.
On the other hand aging in dogs can create higher levels of anxiety- older dogs can exhibit aggressive behavior and require attention until they stop barking. Some dogs may become more intrusive, while others may show less interest in affection, interaction, or petting.
Other typical problems with aging in dogs are memory related like problems recognizing familiar people or responding less to known commands for obedience and known games.
Lastly, another symptom that may arise is a reversed day-night schedule. Your dog may wake up at night and sleep during the day.
The best thing to do when you spot signs of aging with your dog is to talk to your veterinarian– many problems are treatable with a variety of therapies that can help your dog and reduce symptoms.
What to Do If You Find a Lost Dog
Hey. Last week I gave 5 tips for good dog health. This week I’m going to talk about something very important to me- What to Do If You Find a Lost Dog.
If by any chance you find a lost dog, the first thing you need to have in mind is that you need to stay safe, as well as the dog. A scared or an injured lost dog may behave unpredictably. Any sudden move may scare him and make him attack you or run into traffic. If the dog looks like he is going to attack you, or if for any reason you feel unsafe, stay away from the lost dog and contact the local animal control.
If the lost dog looks like he is not threatened by your presence, you should still approach with caution. If you get close enough to the dog, have in mind that you are still in risk of being bitten by a dog whose vaccination status is unknown.
When approaching the lost dog, you have to speak in a soothing voice. The best way is to offer the dog some food so he will approach you.
Once the lost dog is with you try and find his owners- that’s the first thing you should aim for and assume.
Check to see if the lost dog has an ID tag or tattoo. Keep in mind that there are some dog owners that let their dogs go on “walks” because they know exactly where their home is. You can try to place a leash on the lost dog and say “home!”- to see if the dog starts leading you somewhere.
Please remember that the lost dog probably belongs to someone, and by law you need to report lost dogs to local authorities, meaning the animal shelters where their owners can find them. If you decide that you don’t want to get the lost dog to shelter, you still have to notify them incase the owners show up. You will have to file a found dog report where you have to give the location where you found it, and your contact information.
After this is done, check the area for any “Lost dog” posters, but remember that the dog might have traveled quite far and the posters could be far away, or the dog might be lost for just a few hours and the owners haven’t yet put up posters.
Lastly, but perhaps most importantly-take the lost dog to a vet’s office. There are two reasons to do so; one is to check for general dog health and get reccomendations. The other reason is to see if they can scan him for a microchip ID, which is injected under the dog’s skin.
If nothing of the above worked, print a “Dog found” posters with the lost dog’s picture and the information about where and when you found him, with your contact information.
Your dog is your best friend- he is faithful, loving and forgiving. So, it is normal that you want to keep him healthy and happy for as long as you can. Here are five 5 dog health tips that can help you take care of your dog’s health and happiness.
1. Make sure that your dog gets the right food
Your pet’s diet is the key to dog health. Everything that he eats will affect him; from his weight, to his teeth, to the health of his fur, and the sparkle of his eyes. The food not only affects your dog’s health, but it also affects his mood. You must feed your dog with nutritious, well balanced food that is easily digested. Raw food diets are unbelievably nutritious and well suited for all dogs. On the other hand, if you do decide to feed your dog with the commercial pet food, you should choose the brands that are transparent about the used ingredients and avoid preservatives. If your pet’s food can last longer than you or your dog, then it’s not good for dog health.
2. Keep your dog active
Exercise is very important for dog health. Together with his food, these two things are the key factors for the his health, as well as for his happiness. Needles to say that regular walks are excellent for your health as well. So what are you waiting for, take the leash and take your dog out for a walk!
3. Visit the vet regularly
No one likes to go to the doctor, especially when they have to visit the dentist, or in the dog’s case, the vet. But, it’s very important that you’re taking your dog to the vet regularly, so that he can check your dog’s health. You must have in mind that you need to start doing this when your dog is still a puppy, so that it can get used to being “poked” by the vet.
4. Learn to speak your dog’s language
Understanding your dog and her particular needs is very important for dog health. Every breed and age of dogs have different needs. Since your dog, unlike me, can’t speak and tell you when something’s wrong, it’s important to notice if something in their behavior and physicality changes. When your dog becomes old, he may need your help with simple things like going up or down the stairs. When this happens, you have to assist him and make his life less painful, and also observe the changes and react.
5. Train your dog’s brain
Even though your dog will never be able to solve the crossword or play chess with you, unlike me, it’s quite important for the dog’s happiness as well as for dog health, to receive mental stimulation. Different dog breeds and ages need different things; some breeds are more capable of solving simple puzzles and playing certain games, while other breeds are good with simple tricks and commands. Regardless of the breed, regularly engaging in new and different activities of this kind, will help keep your dog’s mind agile and alert, thus the overall dog health will be better.
